Conditioning tips

Redirect towards Good behaviour:

Use the redirection principle:
1- When the cat scratches a sofa, redirect him towards a scratching pad.
2- When the cat goes on counter to rest, redirect him toward a cushion.
3- Give the cat a toy to replace the plants, etc.

Generalize behavior to optimize area size:

In order to generalize your cat’s learning you can move the SSSCAT a few feet away from its original place. This way, your cat will not only avoid one particular area on the counter, he will soon avoid it completely.

Reward good behavior:

Use positive reinforcement (food or petting) when your cat respects the zone or the redirection principal. Ex: When the cat uses his scratching pad give him a treat.
